Food Processing – A challenging job
by
Eric Ittah
Food processing is a very challenging method of making different types of food products. A lot of factors are kept into consideration to ensure that the products processed are pure, safe and healthy. Today, every consumer in the market wants to buy items that are safe, nutritious and affordable. Though the professionals working in different food processing units keep a number of things into consideration, but there are a number of scenarios when all these considerations fail.
Food items perish for a number of good reasons. Some of the main factors include:
Breeding of tiny microscopic organisms
Enzymes

Temperature
Moisture/humidity
There is no wrong in saying that the quality of raw materials also plays a major role in the processing of food. If the quality of the raw materials is good, the products produced will be of good quality and will be safe to use for a long time. Also, good processing techniques help in the production of superior quality products. So, we cannot assume that only there is one factor responsible for making any food product safe and healthy.
Professionals working in production houses use a number of different techniques to ensure that the processed products are free from contamination. Some of these processes include:
Addition of chemicals – A number of chemicals is added during the production of food items to check the growth of microorganisms. Preservatives, salt, sugar, wood smoke and many spices also inhibit the growth of micro organisms.
Blanching Blanching is a physical processing process where a slight heat treatment is given to fruits and vegetables using hot water or steam. This process is mainly applied to vegetables before canning or freezing.
Refrigeration Refrigeration is also a process used for preventing the growth of microbes on food items. This process is mainly used to reduce spoilage during the circulation of perishable foods, and to increase the storage life of commercially processed foods.
Dehydration Dehydration is a process that helps in the complete removal of water from solid foods. It is a very primitive method and is cost effective too. The two common methods of drying are spray drying and freeze drying. Some of the best examples of dehydrated food include dried soup mixes, dried fruit, powdered milk and spices.
All the above food processing methods are useful in making food items free from any type of contamination. The professionals dealing with these processes ensure that they deal with all these methods in a well protected way.

US Senate finance committee to vote on health care bill
August 8th, 2021 | Uncategorized |
Friday, October 9, 2009
US Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has said that the Senate Finance Committee will vote on a sweeping health care reform bill next Tuesday. US President Barack Obama has made clear that extending health insurance coverage to as many Americans as possible is his top domestic priority.
Republican lawmakers, however, are still overwhelmingly opposed to the bill, saying it is too expensive and would expand the role of government in people’s health care.
Obama and his fellow Democrats in the Senate received some good news late Wednesday from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, which put the total cost of the Senate Finance Committee’s health care bill at $829 billion over the next decade, below Obama’s stated goal of $900 billion. The budget watchdog organization also said the health care bill would help reduce the federal budget deficit over the next ten years.
Harry Reid said he believed health care reform was moving forward. “And so today we stand closer than ever to fulfilling that fundamental promise, one for which we have fought for more than 60 years,” he said.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, however said that the cost estimate was “irrelevant”, because the final bill that will actually emerge from both houses of Congress is likely to look very different and cost a lot more. “What matters is that the final bill will cost about a trillion dollars, vastly expand the role of government in people’s health care decisions, increase premiums and limit choice,” McConnell said.

McConnell said Republicans favor a step by step approach to health care reform, focusing on prevention and wellness programs and dealing with the high costs of malpractice insurance doctors have to pay due to fears of excessive lawsuits.
Under the Finance Committee’s bill, US residents would be required to get health insurance or face a penalty, and insurance companies would face tough new regulations. For example, insurance companies could no longer reject coverage for people due to pre-existing conditions.
The Senate Finance Committee is likely to pass the bill, which will then have to be merged with one passed by the Senate health committee before it goes to the full Senate floor for debate.

Trucks on the Go A Look at Small Cargo Transport to Big Rigs
by
Valeria Stephens
They come rumbling down the road, thousands in motion at any time. With heavy cargos hauled behind by hard working diesel engines, they re the driving force behind the motion of material goods in North America. In a continent with more geography than people and an infrastructure supported by roads, not rail or canal, where other locations are serviced by train or barge, for the most part, when goods hit the ports, they come off the cargo ships in containers and find their way into transport training school graduates care, where they are unpacked, slapped with digital tags and dispatched on their way in the back of trucks.
The transport industry truck fleet is a mix of private contractors with their own rigs and professional drivers who drive company owned vehicles. In the cities, hauling is often on a smaller scale, in commercial vans and half trucks, but on the open road, there s space for big rigs. And these are heavy and dangerous! Trucks that exceed about 16, 600 lbs. need to have specially licenced drivers, but the biggest trucks can be pulling several tons of cargo around. Some have built in hauling areas, while others rely on being a detachable cab that can pull any cargo.

Drivers of the biggest rigs need to be prepared to spend long hours away from home. A whole subculture has risen up around the drivers, with their truck stop habits and specialized radio jargon. Most cabs carry a radio. Back at home base there will be dispatcher co-ordinating things, increasingly a graduate of
dispatcher courses
, but drivers also talk to each other on the go, sharing road hazards and looking out for each other.
These drivers have a good idea of the risks of the road. As part of their licensing process they know all the safety regulations for the cargos they can carry, whether they are explosive, corrosive, poisonous or have to be kept under temperature controls. Additionally, further laws control the number of hours a driver can spend on the road before rest, mandating regular sleep to avoid accidents caused by fatigue. Truck drivers must also keep an immaculate driving record to keep employed in their profession.
Heavy engines need a qualified person to service them. Generally this involves more than basic training, but any reputable
auto mechanic school
will also be able to certify graduates to work on large diesel engines. Some, larger companies will have their own in house mechanics, and trucks stops along traditional transport routes are also experienced with dealing with on the road repairs. Nonetheless, not every city garage has the equipment and scale to handle jobs like this. Some drivers, especially those who own their own rigs, will do their own repairs.

The move to a new home or office is exciting. It holds promise for all kinds of new experiences and opportunities. We may well think in advance that new space will not have much impact on the lives or us and loved ones. But think again. Once we occupy a different space in the universe our lives and events are inextricably changed that is hopefully for the better. It is as if different geography affects our very karma.
What to do? First of all it is most important to start with a clean slate. There is something drawing and inviting about a new place. It is like a vacuum waiting to suck in all the adjacent influences. We can see this opening as the very spirit of our own potentialities.
This is what makes moving into a new space so vital and important in itself. Exploit the vastness of this potential to its very core. Get into the right mold by making actual conscious as well as the resulting ‘intuitive’ ‘ that it just feels right ‘ subconscious choices as well. Moving in a deliberate thoughtful manner will help you to make sure that good karma comes and remains. Feng Shui.
First of pack early and pack often. Get started as soon as the moment you know events are chain. Secondly you should clean as you go. Clean your items before you pack them. Not everything is meant to be moved. A good rule of thumb is that if you have not used the item in the last year you are unlikely to use it in the next year. Donate or trash what you do not keep. Someone else at the local value village may be just thrilled at your throwaway. As for sentimental items best to keep only those items that impart good memories. The others – why let them drag you down.

You will need packing supplies. Plan ahead to buy on sale. Packing tape, duct tape, scissors and exacto knives are always necessary. You can never have enough boxes when you need them. Plan for double the amount of cardboard boxes you need.
You may want to hire a professional services to clean the space ahead of time or you do it yourself if funds are limited. A good time frame is 2 to 3 days ahead of the move in.
What else can you do to Feng Shui your move? Prepare your move with welcoming items for the new home such as beautiful flowers or plants, music and special items to make you feel welcome and loved.
Next you can buy new mops and brooms. Why sweep away the past with the past.
A new life needs all the help and the less drag it can afford.
It cannot be stressed enough the importance of picking the correct date for your new move. With a suitable Feng Shui astrological calendar pick a suitable personal Feng Shui moving date.
Lastly be ready for that big day. Prepare your arrival. Buy your house a gift. Have all your legal papers including your closing real estate documents or lease. Make sure you have a first meal there with friends and family whose company you enjoy.
Stand at the threshold of your new home. Enter that threshold. Open the door and begin your new life full of all its potential and vitality. Feng Shui your new home.

Ferrari driver Kimi Räikkönen won the FIA Formula-1 2007 ING Belgian Grand Prix on the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps at Spa, Belgium. He and his teammate, Felipe Massa, showed the fastest times during most of the pre-race sessions, taking the front line as a result.
Both McLaren Mercedes drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton were unable to compete with the red cars, tring their utmost to use a slightest mistake of their rivals, if any. Still, Kimi and Felipe were in full control of the race after making a significant gap to Alonso, number one of McLaren.
Start of the race resulted in a slight side touch between McLaren cars, with Hamilton forced to make an evasive manoeuvre out of the track, a reminiscent of the Hungary practice session incident between them.
Two German drivers Nick Heidfeld from BMW Saubers and Nico Rosberg from Williams–Toyota saw the chequered flag 5th and 6th. Mark Webber owned 7th place for Red Bull–Renault team.
Heikki Kovalainen‘s Renault closed the top eight after his highlighted struggle with Robert Kubica on the third part of the race.
Another highlight became Adrian Sutil‘s driving for Spyker-Ferrari, who was pushing hard on David Coulthard on the first part of the race. The young German driver finished 14th far ahead of both Super Aguri‘s and his teammate.
Alonso came closer to Hamilton in Drivers’ Championship, and have now a gap of just 2 points between the teammates. The situation in Constructors’ Championship after the World Motorsport Council ruling over McLaren on September 13 became clear for Ferrari with their 161 points, 71 points ahead of BMW Sauber.

English actress Rachel Weisz thinks that Botox injections should be banned for all actors.
The 39-year-old actress, best known for her roles in the Mummy movie franchise and for her Academy Award-winning portrayal in The Constant Gardener, feels facial Botox injections leave actors less able to convey emotion and that it harms the acting industry as much as steroids harm athletes.
In an interview with UK’s Harper’s Bazaar, coming out next month, Weisz says, “It should be banned for actors, as steroids are for sportsmen,” she claims. “Acting is all about expression; why would you want to iron out a frown?”

Currently living in New York, she also mentions that English women are much less worried about their physical appearance than in the United States. “I love the way girls in London dress,” she claimed. “It’s so different to the American ‘blow-dry and immaculate grooming’ thing.”
