Cars big winner as 34th Annual Annie Awards handed out

Monday, February 12, 2007

Cars drove home the big prize last night, from the 34th Annual Annie Awards. The animation industry’s highest honor, ASIFA-Hollywood’s Annies recognise contributions to animation, writing, directing, storyboarding, voice acting, composing, and much more.

As mentioned, Pixar took home the big prize last night, after facing stiff competition from four other Happy Feet, Monster House, Open Season, and Over the Hedge.

But the biggest winner of the night didn’t get a “Best Animated Feature” nod at all. Flushed Away won five feature animation categories including Animated Effects (Scott Cegielski), Character Animation (Gabe Hordos), Production Design (Pierre-Olivier Vincent), Voice Acting (Sir Ian McKellan as Toad), Writing (Dick Clement, Ian La Frenais, Chris Lloyd, Joe Keenan, and Will Davies).

Over The Hedge won awards for Directing (Tim Johnson and Karey Kirkpatrick), Storyboarding (Gary Graham), and Character Design (Nicolas Marlet).

Of little surprise, Randy Newman won an Annie for Cars in the “Music in an Animated Feature Production” category. Newman has won many Oscars for his movie music, and has a nomination this year for the song “Our Town”. Newman didn’t attend the Annies, instead picking up a Grammy for “Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media”.

DisneyToon Studios’ Bambi II won “Best Home Entertainment Production”, while “Best Animated Short Subject” went to Blue Sky Studios’ No Time For Nuts, which is based on Ice Age.

“Best Animated Video Game” went to Flushed Away The Game, while a United Airlines ad named “Dragon” won a “Best Animated Television Commercial” Annie for DUCK Studios.

Using An Ice Cube Distributor In Suffolk County Ny To Keep Food Cool

August 21st, 2022 | Shipping |

byAlma Abell

When someone is going to be selling food products at a county fair, it becomes necessary to take the steps needed to keep perishables from becoming ruined in warm temperatures. There are several steps the food booth operator can do to ensure the products they are selling are kept in the best possible condition so contamination does not set in.

First, appropriate containers will need to be obtained to house food items. A small cooler or refrigerator may be used if there is electricity at the fair booth site. If there is not, then large coolers should be purchased to hold the items so they are kept away from hot conditions.

A visit to an ice cube distributor is a great way to fill these enclosures so the food will remain chilled at all times. The distributor can be visited each day to fill up the containers before the beginning of the selling session. A simple trip to the facility will ensure the food is kept cold for the duration of the event.

Cubes can be purchased in a variety of sizes, making it easy to select the right type for the food that needs to be stored. A block of ice can be used to place larger items on top of if they need to remain chilled for longer periods of time. Standard sized cubes can be used if housing several smaller food items so each surface will be sure to have a cooler temperature touching it while inside the container.

It is important to keep coolers in an area out of direct sunlight. This will help to keep the ice cubes inside intact without melting prematurely. Look for an area under a table or in direct shade to ensure the food in the cooler stays at its absolute coolest.

If someone needs to visit an ice cube distributor in Suffolk County NY, they can find a reputable supplier in the area. Contact Ice Fuel LI to find out more about the products they offer to their customers. A trip to their facility can be made to pick up cubes if desired.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia CEO apologies for financial planning scandal

Commonwealth Bank of Australia CEO apologies for financial planning scandal

Thursday, July 3, 2014

Ian Narev, the CEO of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, this morning “unreservedly” apologised to clients who lost money in a scandal involving the bank’s financial planning services arm.

Last week, a Senate enquiry found financial advisers from the Commonwealth Bank had made high-risk investments of clients’ money without the clients’ permission, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars lost. The Senate enquiry called for a Royal Commission into the bank, and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

Mr Narev stated the bank’s performance in providing financial advice was “unacceptable”, and the bank was launching a scheme to compensate clients who lost money due to the planners’ actions.

In a statement Mr Narev said, “Poor advice provided by some of our advisers between 2003 and 2012 caused financial loss and distress and I am truly sorry for that. […] There have been changes in management, structure and culture. We have also invested in new systems, implemented new processes, enhanced adviser supervision and improved training.”

An investigation by Fairfax Media instigated the Senate inquiry into the Commonwealth Bank’s financial planning division and ASIC.

Whistleblower Jeff Morris, who reported the misconduct of the bank to ASIC six years ago, said in an article for The Sydney Morning Herald that neither the bank nor ASIC should be in control of the compensation program.

Dmitriy Guzner, aged 18, will admit to the charges related to carrying out the DDoS attack. He now faces a maximum sentence of ten years imprisonment.

In response to incidents such as these, Scientology have called Anonymous “cyber-terrorists.”

A DDoS attack occurs when multiple computers are used to attack a certain website with so much traffic that it is not accessible. The hackers attack the servers taking up all the available space, preventing the legitimate user from accessing.

Mystery surrounds ricin discovery in Las Vegas hotel">
Mystery surrounds ricin discovery in Las Vegas hotel

August 21st, 2022 | Uncategorized |

Saturday, March 1, 2008

On February 14, a man staying at the Valley View Extended Stay America hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada was hospitalized after experiencing respiratory distress. The man lapsed into unconsciousness and has been at the hospital ever since.

Since the bills at the hotel were going unpaid, Extended Stay America began to evict the man from the room. Another man, described as either a friend or relative, went to the hotel on Thursday to collect the personal belongings of the hospitalized man.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Kathy Suey, he found several vials of a white substance. He brought them to the attention of the hotel manager, who called police.

Initial tests, which further tests confirmed on Friday, the substance was the deadly toxin ricin, an extremely dangerous biological agent. Ricin is extracted from castor beans through the waste produced in the manufacture of castor oil. It is currently being used in cancer treatment research. There has been research for its use as a chemical/biological warfare agent. An amount smaller than the point of a pin will kill a human being. It is estimated to be several thousand times more toxic than cyanide and there is no known antidote.

Police cordoned off the area around Valley View between Flamingo Road and Harmon Avenue. Three employees and the man who made the discovery were taken to the hospital as a precaution. So were three police officers. They are all reported to show no signs of poisoning.

Nevada National Guard and other emergency services responded to secure the area. Residents at the Extended Stay America were allowed back into the building late Thursday. The hotel reopened fully on Friday after the room and other areas of the hotel were decontaminated.

The man whose room it was “is in critical condition and he is unable to speak with us right now. We have no indication why the ricin was in that room,” said Deputy Chief Suey.

“Usually, if [ricin victims] survive the first three to five days, they usually do fine,” Dr. Lawrence Sands told CNN. However, survivors often have long-term organ damage.

At least three pets were found in the room. “Two of those pets are fine. One of the pets is deceased or was put down,” Suey said. “The dog that was in there was without food and water for a week,” she added that there was no reason to supect it was exposed to ricin. Castor beans were also found in the room.

Officials have also recovered from the room a firearm, as well as an “anarchist” text containing an article on ricin.

Federal Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Richard Kolko said the incident is being treated as a criminal matter and did not appear to be related to terrorism “based on the information gathered so far.”

Captain Joe Lombardo of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said that ricin is not illegal to own unless it is intended for the poisoning of a person, adding that “We did have enough ricin to be of concern.”

In 2003, a man committed suicide in Las Vegas using ricin. There have also been a few incidents where ricin powder was found in the mail. Also in 2003, the United Kingdom had the Wood Green ricin plot which in the end found no ricin.

In 1978, Bulgarian defector Georgi Markov was famously assassinated in London with ricin injected with the tip of an umbrella.

A sale and leaseback financing deal for assembly line equipment heavy duty trucks, construction equipment and machinery and equipment is where the company sells it free and clear assets and leases it back at the same time.

Construction equipment, manufacturing equipment, production equipment, yellow iron, dump trucks and trailers, agricultural and farm equipment, and other heavy trucks Many seasoned lenders have come up with many industries standards to make the available credit pretty much typical. The first area that the lender will take into account is the the value of the free and clear asset that is going to be sold and leased back. Each lender’s procedure is somewhat alike but they usually value the acquired asset somewhere between 50%-70% of the auction value. This auction value will come from trade publications and other standards in the industry for these individual assets. Once the auction value of the asset and/or assets is established, the financial institution will look at the applicant’s credit. Some financial institutions will consider the credit immaterial as they spotlight on the auction value of the asset. Otherinstitutionswill acquire}the credit and grade them according. These institutionswill come up with a score and give the applicants different lending rates depending upon their credit and the asset involved. Thefinancial institutionwill finance these bought assets anywhere from 24-85 months back to the applicant. Also, the lenderwill tender residual buyout clauses anywhere from 25% residual to fair market value of the asset at the end of the lease. This will maintain the applicant’s monthly payment as little as possible. Sale and Leaseback Financing – What is required ? Usually, what is required from the applicant is: Personal financial statements, a lease application, a review telling about the transaction and its particulars, and a comprehensive equipment list, identifying the assets to sold and leased back Obviously – bills of sale and title work will have to be performed by the lender. The proceeds of these funds can be used for working capital, debt re-structuring, equipment acquisitions, and paying off judgements and other liens. Non-bankable type transactions, home ownership isn’t required, and poor credit In conclusion, we propose you shop around for the best deal for yourself and understand all the facts of the transaction. Hopefully, this article about “Sales and Leaseback” financing assists you with your decision making. In conclusion, a asset rich company with qualifying assets with poor credit and working capital and cash flow problems should consider this type of transaction. Happy hunting for your financing

Kate Lundy and Tony Abbott assist in Olympic dreams with Gymnastics Australia’s artistic gymnastics team announcement

August 20th, 2022 | Uncategorized |

Thursday, June 21, 2012

Bruce, Canberra — Earlier today at the Australian Institute of Sport, Australia’s Minister for Sport Kate Lundy and the Leader of the Opposition Tony Abbott were on hand when the Australian Olympic Team formally announced the Australian artistic gymnastics team to compete at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Melbourne-based Georgia Bonora and Ashleigh Brennan, Perth residents Emily Little and Lauren Mitchell, and Brisbane resident Larrissa Miller booked their trip to London.

Lundy announced the government’s A$4.5 million support for the Green and Gold Room in London. This facility, supported by the Australian Institute of Sport’s experts, enables performance analysis to help the Australian Olympians excel during the London Games. Lundy also mentioned Gillard’s Prime Ministers Challenge, which is not just for Australia’s Olympians and Paralympians, but seeks to encourage the nation’s young to play sports.

Abbott started off with a quip that the only gymnastics he participates in is verbal gymnastics. The opposition leader then told the media present that Australia’s Olympians have the country’s support, and congratulated the competitors on the hard work they have put in for over ten years to get there.

In a conversation with a Wikinews reporter following the press conference, Miller said the team does not feel pressure from the media or other teams to do well. They are very team-oriented and when it is time to compete, they ignore everything else going on and focus on performing their best. The team does not need to worry about anything but competing because the gymnasts get support from Gymnastics Australia and the Australian Institute of Sport to cover the cost of everything they need.

With encouragement for the Olympians, Abbott and Lundy spent time on the trampoline. In a show of bipartisan support, Abbott assisted Lundy out of the foam pit they jumped into, with Lundy returning the favour.

World Trade Organization allows Antigua to ignore US$21 million of US copyright per year">
World Trade Organization allows Antigua to ignore US$21 million of US copyright per year

August 19th, 2022 | Uncategorized |

Saturday, December 29, 2007

Arbitrators at the World Trade Organization (WTO) have granted the Caribbean country of Antigua and Barbuda a special dispensation to ignore United States copyright law.

In their report, the WTO panel stated that Antigua possessed “no effective trade sanctions against the USA” and agreed to allow the country to ignore up to US$21 million worth of US copyrights a year. While this amount falls significantly short of the US$3.4 billion per year dispensation that Antigua was seeking, it is far higher than the US$500,000 per year allocation that US negotiators were pushing for.

The ruling comes at the end of a five year legal contest between Antigua and the USA regarding the USA’s blocking of offshore online gambling sites. Because many of these sites were located in Antigua, the Antiguan government filed a complaint with the WTO saying that the US prohibition constituted unlawful restriction of trade. When the WTO agreed, Antigua pressed for US$3.4 billion in punitive damages. They asked to have this penalty assessed as permission to copy US intellectual property, since there was no trade embargo that Antigua could impose on the US to collect the amount for itself. The panel agreed that Antigua had no way to collect punitive damages through trade sanctions. However, they lowered the amount of damages to US$21 million per year.
